Chapel in the Park

Picture
Cheyenne's first church was built in 1893. This replica chapel reminds us of the importance of a place to worship to the early pioneers.

The Chapel in the Cheyenne City Park was originally the home of Eli Sr. and Ida Shotwell. The Shotwells were farmers and ranchers and initially lived in Cheyenne - where they raised their family of four children.

The house originally had a huge kitchen, small living area, one small bedroom, small bathroom, and a back room that was used for canned goods, extra storage, coats and miscellaneous items. The front door opened to a covered porch where there was a porch swing. The back of the house opened onto a tiny porch.

The house was moved to the Cheyenne City Park from north of Cheyenne and converted to the Chapel as part of the Historic Roger Mills Preservation & Development Foundations Museums in the Park.

The Chapel venue is available for events - like weddings and special services.
